XRWD vs Air Pollution

We had a really constructive What Next? meeting on Wednesday 8th November, it was great to see new faces and more familiar ones.

We decided to focus on air pollution in Warwick District going forward, drawing on resources from other XR groups and data on pollution postcode by postcode.

CUT THE CRAP SEVERN TRENT

On Friday 7th July 2023, XR Warwick District joined a march from the Godiva Statue to Severn Trent's headquarters in Coventry.

  • In 2020, Severn Trent dumped raw sewage into the rivers for more than 500,000 hours
  • Meanwhile, they paid out £261 million in dividends last year and CEO Liz Garfield pocketed £3.9 million in pay

Outreach and Picnic

XR Warwick District had a busy day in the summer sun on the 17th June. First we spoke to members of the public near the Town Hall in an outreach. There were some very interesting people around including a Green Party member, and a lady with strong spiritual beliefs.

THE BIG ONE!

On the 21 April 2023 Extinction Rebellion Warwick District (XRWD) helped The Big One fulfil its name, with our biggest ever turn-out.  We organised transport for a bus-load of concerned citizens from Warwick and surrounding areas and arrived just across the river from Parliament around 10AM on Friday to join the event.

BUS FOR THE BIG ONE
The Big One on 21 April is the focus of Extinction Rebellion Warwick District (XRWD) right now. We are spreading the word at outreaches in the run-up to the event, a whole new approach for XRUK, with the aim now to get as many to London as possible, without disrupting the public.

Barclays Action Jan 23

We went back to Barclays on Saturday 21 January 2023 to highlight their terrible record of funding fossil fuels.  They are the biggest funders of fossil fuels in Europe, despite their efforts at Greenwashing.  Fellow rebels from Stratford and Coventry came out to support the action, in somewhat ironic weather.

XRWD at the Climate Justice Rally 12 Nov

Extinction Rebellion Warwick District (XRWD) offered a hot beverage and a Jammie Dodger to concerned citizens at the Climate Justice Rally on Saturday 12 November.

XRWD at October 2022 Rebellion: We can't afford this

Extinction Rebellion Warwick District (XRWD) marched alongside fellow rebels from Trafalgar Square to Downing Street on the 14th October, to protest our government's failure to take real action on the Climate Emergency.

Dear Barclays, sick of us yet?

On Saturday 25th June we had our third outreach action at Barclays this year, informing the public about Barclays and other banks' complicity in climate change and encouraging people to switch to a more ethical choice. Since our first action in January there have been more climate emergency related disasters, see the letter below.
