Extreme Weather Events Outreach and Training

Exreme weather events have already plagued 2025 in its first month, from the LA wildfires which have killed many and destroyed homes of many more, to Storm Éowyn in the UK.

XR Warwick District was on the streets of Leamington on Saturday 25 talking to citizens about these events, using a survey board, and putting into practice outreach training provided by XR Midlands the night before.

Insure Our Survival London and Birmingham 2024

London
XRWD met up with rebels from from across the country on 28 October 2024 to march to several insurers, pressuring them to stop insuring fossil fuels.

Extinction Rebellion occupied insurance companies and caused disruption across the City of London including the Walkie Talkie, home to insurers Ascot, Talbot, Chaucer, Markel, Allied World, CNA Hardy, Tokio Marine Kiln, Sirius International and Lancashire Syndicates, demanding insurance companies dump new oil, gas & coal projects

Thousands of activists have also hit the streets, calling on insurers to cut their ties with fossil fuel projects which are actively fuelling climate chaos

We staged a die-in outside Lloyds of London, where our bodies were chalked around by Climate Crime Investigators

Birmingham

XR Warwick joined up with XR Midlands on Friday 1 November to bring Fire and Flood to the offices of insurance companies in Birmingham, and ask them to stop insuring new coal and oil extraction projects. Rebels also wrote letters to the employees of these companies to encourage them to speak up to management.

Zurich, Probitas and Generali have already made commitments to stop enabling new fossil fuel extraction. We need the others to follow.

Air Pollution Outreach

The last few months have seen local group XR members out on the streets in Warwick District's three largest towns, talking to people about the dangers of air pollution and mapping air quality, using the very useful website addresspollution.org. We invited people to enter their postcode on the website, which then flags up a colour-coded result indicating an overall pollution level at that location.

London’s Insure Our Future March 2024

I arrived early on a sunny morning in Trinity Square Gardens, in readiness for a 10.30 demo start. Happily, the first group I came across were from the West Midlands and it was fantastic to meet people whose faces I’d previously seen on the Coordinators’ Zoom sessions.
